It was a sunflower fairy that was reversible. So could be both a flower and a doll. I didn't end up getting that one I ended up down an Etsy rabbit hole. And picked up a reversible tulip fairy from <a href="https://www.etsy.com/au/shop/Chibiscraft">ChibisCraft</a> <div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Life has been very busy. I started a new job in December which is what I was doing but a little bit more but it's about learning all the new systems, which they do everything differently!!! Then my Grandpa passed away in mid December so that was On top of that my partner ended up cutting half the index finger off his left hand. That made for an interesting January and then time just kept passing really quickly. </p><p>I have been stitching, though it seems I only have time to stitch my own designs. My grandma gave me some money for christmas so I spent it on some fancy metallic watercolours and OMG I am having sooooo much fun painting!!! I've then been turning some of those paintings into cross stitch patterns. I can't share a lot of them but I will share what I can. More about them at the end of the post! <br /></p><p>I made this cute little Easter dragon for the <a href="https://downtherabbitholemagazine.com.au/shop/ols/products/down-the-rabbit-hole-cross-stitch-and-needlework-magazine-autumn-edition-2023-featuring-indie-designers-and-exclusive-charts" target="_blank">autumn edition</a> of down the rabbit hole. I called it Easter Surprise because you don't expect to find a dragon in your carefully decorated Easter egg :D <br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWs4ExylZ-NxJY3EFgG0r6AkoaZxjVIOf6JXRtEnpe-QQ8uMV6cJj8PM0mSov2RLjBcjALnHAVlheRy68tsmQz-I6C1JfHUX84kuJORpMuKdo3IE6SEM0fEV_SOALqZ8Vm-6T1VYArbbs6mdL8KKKN_SBwROHU7znHbKZ7Wyfb45e8E2J7BM1IwI-7/s4080/PXL_20230205_075958709~2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3072" data-original-width="4080" height="482" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWs4ExylZ-NxJY3EFgG0r6AkoaZxjVIOf6JXRtEnpe-QQ8uMV6cJj8PM0mSov2RLjBcjALnHAVlheRy68tsmQz-I6C1JfHUX84kuJORpMuKdo3IE6SEM0fEV_SOALqZ8Vm-6T1VYArbbs6mdL8KKKN_SBwROHU7znHbKZ7Wyfb45e8E2J7BM1IwI-7/w640-h482/PXL_20230205_075958709~2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><p></p><p>All this from a quick little sketch I did. But over the last few years it has both gotten increasingly hard to buy games and hard to find people to play with. There are some games that I love and I think are worth the price. BUT there are so many games that as soon as you take into account that I live in Australia, and shipping and exchange rates they become ridiculous! On top of that I'm a crafter... with a very strong need to make stuff for myself. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">I started making a game folder a few years ago with some dice and card games inside and I made some simple boards, for games like checkers and backgammon. I love it. Such a cool way to play and honestly so cute to have a mini backgammon game. I seem to be all about the mini games at the moment! <br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBOPHAoS2zzx2tjqfa0_4tQDMl95fmlyZ14YedsfFmLIATiiuekkhr1jd_ZKeOi2-UvBP0UfSv6frZKIZpro1xhOCn2UuXJux1FmSOpOwo7yZwUtc98-smg0YEwPArz6VGedCtlwQfeYL-mbMtH5ClcgL2URYMBUxU05ldUw3oeFqUo6_PfFORMyl8/s640/buildingsprawlopolis.jpg" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0px; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBOPHAoS2zzx2tjqfa0_4tQDMl95fmlyZ14YedsfFmLIATiiuekkhr1jd_ZKeOi2-UvBP0UfSv6frZKIZpro1xhOCn2UuXJux1FmSOpOwo7yZwUtc98-smg0YEwPArz6VGedCtlwQfeYL-mbMtH5ClcgL2URYMBUxU05ldUw3oeFqUo6_PfFORMyl8/s320/buildingsprawlopolis.jpg" width="320" /></div></a>Continuing on with the mini trend I decided to make a smaller version of sprawlopolis. I bought these files from PNParcade and printed them two to a page on A4. The cards are so cute! I also printed a few of the expansions while I was at it. <br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCCcyh3W4ZzNOYBl7tc_s8l2dZOVxAqlVINgD2FGxrfJWQuvyHGBQ0BHRoj9rm5U58BVz64stLriSIJptHYU1nvR9QZShWGmwfjuFBXAobKCFPi2Ee5ztIC5ixcqfSwKUqSk_g4rujTtYYo3sTLYLlILTdeZazpUFs0Y7pTgPm8fuLneQDRBIRwcqJ/s640/mintifiedsprawlopolis2.jpg" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0px; text-align: center;"><img alt="" border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCCcyh3W4ZzNOYBl7tc_s8l2dZOVxAqlVINgD2FGxrfJWQuvyHGBQ0BHRoj9rm5U58BVz64stLriSIJptHYU1nvR9QZShWGmwfjuFBXAobKCFPi2Ee5ztIC5ixcqfSwKUqSk_g4rujTtYYo3sTLYLlILTdeZazpUFs0Y7pTgPm8fuLneQDRBIRwcqJ/s320/mintifiedsprawlopolis2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">As much as I love this game I think I have only managed to win a play through once. It's always the roads that do it! It's a game called Deep Space D-6 and it's so much fun :D I was even able to find a mint tin version that is designed to be cut and folded into a mint tin. This one is awesome to play. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhE8hHbSvRKX1C4q4NbEe5rA4RtmKybNp_PYPQcnQ7ENFe4Frf9FXZ7oM0aBZCxQgmQdergtppAfxHw4m_P2TuAjWX7fwGHjdhLGTPts5u074mrOuEozSoAS5r4Vyr6uPFc_-2QLU_1twzYILz-HAg03y2wdKdAH6SyOfyp0bTHafxfAKJtjAJ_-Hct/s640/deepspaced6.jpg" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0px; text-align: center;"><img alt="" border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhE8hHbSvRKX1C4q4NbEe5rA4RtmKybNp_PYPQcnQ7ENFe4Frf9FXZ7oM0aBZCxQgmQdergtppAfxHw4m_P2TuAjWX7fwGHjdhLGTPts5u074mrOuEozSoAS5r4Vyr6uPFc_-2QLU_1twzYILz-HAg03y2wdKdAH6SyOfyp0bTHafxfAKJtjAJ_-Hct/s320/deepspaced6.jpg" width="320" /> </a>The last one I'm super proud of! I bought hive a few years ago but then I lost one of the pieces. I loved playing that game but didn't want to buy a new one. So I started looking at options. I ended up buying these wooden hexagons I found on Amazon. This didn't quite turn out right because I didn't read the listing and they weren't one INCH they were one CM!!! Ooops.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">So I went with it and after asking in my print and play group, I ended up buying some magnet sticker sheets and a mint tin style box. I used those to make a mini set of HIVE! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnfvzsDht90we7oIiflre2YlROObhwKAR_7aRdDLOUDlp0FzBUuBn5PzH2YKuihz4VydeshBpCRWA8SD2WUyUr-2IaLGbGnvigpIwcfVnLTWxD2S77mxDNjYWuILrqdP_2VdXbBqg7cWivcxAYFNcgKzK7GIX0xP3RWMIg2hmJslbIG2PptpSrpn17/s640/minihive.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnfvzsDht90we7oIiflre2YlROObhwKAR_7aRdDLOUDlp0FzBUuBn5PzH2YKuihz4VydeshBpCRWA8SD2WUyUr-2IaLGbGnvigpIwcfVnLTWxD2S77mxDNjYWuILrqdP_2VdXbBqg7cWivcxAYFNcgKzK7GIX0xP3RWMIg2hmJslbIG2PptpSrpn17/s320/minihive.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvwHF9dtrRpbNY4nDkywC1dCmzkMXj__hOzzMCmilMMTtywHEbHgPWwB7Cy-9CPSn0T4GWZOx2lLzMYFTeRe8v4QBLR8PDQyA7Tvz2XsxKTsB3KN06eVYXlgkRWYssSzXhK0cGBFDRbsodmTzF00J9a7_YXK3tNPYHpiNZzgzYtJhHRW8aBcP8ECsx/s640/minihive.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a></div>Using paint pens that I had I could colour these in and then I coated them with a clear acrylic paint to seal them. I am deeming this an extension of the drawing and art I have been doing so it doesn't count as a new craft. And honestly outside buying some card from kmart I haven't bought a whole lot of stuff for it. It started as being invited by one of my friends into a craft group and I accepted not really understanding what I would be walking into. I thought it was about making small craft projects which I do a lot of as that is the kind of cross stitch pattern that I do. It turned out to be a lot more specific than that. It was specifically for artist trading cards which are pretty awesome and I'm going to tell you why. </p><p> They are cards that are 3.5inches x 2.5inches which are the size of a trading card like pokemon. The idea is that you make these cards and then you can trade them around the world with other people. Now this group is just a local facebook group and we are separated into groups of 9 and we make cards to suit a theme. The first group that I ended up in was the white plus one theme. So I had to make 9 cards that all looked pretty much the same and then send them off to the organiser. The theme had been a vote between a few options and I picked Disney but the white plus one theme had won. So I ended up combining the two into these Cinderella cards. This was my first foray into this and I had sooo much fun making these! I became addicted. <br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXuf0vOEvYvBfJroJyXNJTvwnuS25_kRVVdbE3PTHBXYKBcIQrAVyp8LNhFRXCNqLFAU8_9mBhZaoUDd9BrlQWz4mURjBfgS5YIKiwNcPSfcjDtze6epxGld99HSAWLomxuFlQzaZ3ZS_GYtqHTXS466SfYBXeU3IsOY_xQeVRJdbQlI7uXhqtCQpP/s4080/PXL_20220716_004337362.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4080" data-original-width="3072" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXuf0vOEvYvBfJroJyXNJTvwnuS25_kRVVdbE3PTHBXYKBcIQrAVyp8LNhFRXCNqLFAU8_9mBhZaoUDd9BrlQWz4mURjBfgS5YIKiwNcPSfcjDtze6epxGld99HSAWLomxuFlQzaZ3ZS_GYtqHTXS466SfYBXeU3IsOY_xQeVRJdbQlI7uXhqtCQpP/w482-h640/PXL_20220716_004337362.jpg" width="482" /></a></div><p></p><p>The card backs are numbered out of 9 to show that it's part of a set of nine. <br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXGuCPH9VsoCuGJRkvP194mQBadSgczlMRrU81xcSuVUMB83T70WHCTBY0l0jy-AVFR3DujH6F-WP1QCpBV9G7_TtpSN0L_MP_mFX1vKWN5_lSpNP8eOoSq5VTqErGaqRirwWKRoiU12XaiXNnL0ltoa3LYZdmfkJqDVXvTdKrwCKwBnRciURLlsXr/s4080/PXL_20220716_024833036.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4080" data-original-width="3072" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXGuCPH9VsoCuGJRkvP194mQBadSgczlMRrU81xcSuVUMB83T70WHCTBY0l0jy-AVFR3DujH6F-WP1QCpBV9G7_TtpSN0L_MP_mFX1vKWN5_lSpNP8eOoSq5VTqErGaqRirwWKRoiU12XaiXNnL0ltoa3LYZdmfkJqDVXvTdKrwCKwBnRciURLlsXr/w482-h640/PXL_20220716_024833036.jpg" width="482" /></a></div><br /><p>Then the package came in the mail with the 9 cards back. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSPv062FGf_eIC4vviOg6Vo1y4-kpMGIG1alij5vcOtH0DiFvpL1TnK08ZkvbI6LTr04TP3Ima-D5FJk9bAjYg_Ct6WHlSGACJyhe-JDMnslNsu8oCokp9ICSkMsNpvm_Bc4sfEi01I5U7D3meZF2WrycURoW9UonVygLaC2DWjhn7bwdSmGTVLDEH/s1440/IMG_20220811_115348_575.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1440" data-original-width="1440" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSPv062FGf_eIC4vviOg6Vo1y4-kpMGIG1alij5vcOtH0DiFvpL1TnK08ZkvbI6LTr04TP3Ima-D5FJk9bAjYg_Ct6WHlSGACJyhe-JDMnslNsu8oCokp9ICSkMsNpvm_Bc4sfEi01I5U7D3meZF2WrycURoW9UonVygLaC2DWjhn7bwdSmGTVLDEH/w640-h640/IMG_20220811_115348_575.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3oMP62YRigu_661MfwD0SYzOBaPiX3OZRFmtxrG1zBGN3pc0xkxJDqfVd4lpZH5XRwbtBCQioTuY_dX4b_WN12KvwtsmoboCz35Tkk4c_jLxCQUnF3cLBgILSEifamIE3yRuR-tZnt64cNoVQ2GK-oagwi-5fmwLFf9LA5vzQvBFhEAOzOwwVo1xo/s1440/IMG_20220811_115348_514.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1440" data-original-width="1440" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3oMP62YRigu_661MfwD0SYzOBaPiX3OZRFmtxrG1zBGN3pc0xkxJDqfVd4lpZH5XRwbtBCQioTuY_dX4b_WN12KvwtsmoboCz35Tkk4c_jLxCQUnF3cLBgILSEifamIE3yRuR-tZnt64cNoVQ2GK-oagwi-5fmwLFf9LA5vzQvBFhEAOzOwwVo1xo/w640-h640/IMG_20220811_115348_514.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><p>I love how each person interpreted the theme and all the different colours and ideas. These definitely show the different backgrounds of all the people. with some being very artistic like the candle and the tree in the bottom row. To the very scrapbook based coffee one. It was so cool to see them altogether like this. </p><p><br /></p><p>The next month the theme did end up being disney :D So I took inspiration from my newest obsession Encanto. (Though this obsession is helped by a 17mth old who is obsessed with the music!) I had lots of fun with these. I drew the little mirabel in my notebook one day and then digitised it. I then printed it out and coloured it in. Then I created the pretty banners and the butterflies. I'm really proud of how this one turned out even if all the parts took me AGES since bubs was being extra clingy anytime I was home as she wasn't well. <br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzEP-1qr4TT_hz2wtwe-E_fk8MJIGZMWlEs_4u9YQ-Z31zIe9yR9Q5vT4Cpgxm6SRlQ_1fwYlWVXzwjL2z25bGhOVd_5_x1AE1W1oBqjNA0QSg8BbpObLC-BVXU0Qk_zQM1lVNLibWiRVQVpAZHD0csmaK9daYJ84XMnjSxOquhewAJ9a90DGJ6-Vz/s4080/PXL_20220901_034858095.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4080" data-original-width="3072" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzEP-1qr4TT_hz2wtwe-E_fk8MJIGZMWlEs_4u9YQ-Z31zIe9yR9Q5vT4Cpgxm6SRlQ_1fwYlWVXzwjL2z25bGhOVd_5_x1AE1W1oBqjNA0QSg8BbpObLC-BVXU0Qk_zQM1lVNLibWiRVQVpAZHD0csmaK9daYJ84XMnjSxOquhewAJ9a90DGJ6-Vz/w482-h640/PXL_20220901_034858095.jpg" width="482" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnb3c1aJOJgPG3IXZfRLhCUGFLteaLyjyKuhR3VGgN2Vq6FpFfEAyGI1cH-MfFHVw3uyg9Zeg1UEfP0rXkb29xdiEyeptziP1FvvS1llISQ86xLuIKS9KE5AL4O9cuD1sx6SxBgsGlZ2qXfhN5KgyTC2oVAHSmsXPcs4bQUzS7e5uwRj4HtNC0WLQv/s4080/PXL_20220820_092933797.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4080" data-original-width="3072" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnb3c1aJOJgPG3IXZfRLhCUGFLteaLyjyKuhR3VGgN2Vq6FpFfEAyGI1cH-MfFHVw3uyg9Zeg1UEfP0rXkb29xdiEyeptziP1FvvS1llISQ86xLuIKS9KE5AL4O9cuD1sx6SxBgsGlZ2qXfhN5KgyTC2oVAHSmsXPcs4bQUzS7e5uwRj4HtNC0WLQv/w482-h640/PXL_20220820_092933797.jpg" width="482" /></a></div><p>While I chose to make each of the cards very similar I did deliberately choose to do two different banner designs and also the butterflies are all slightly different in their placement. It came about the way most of my patterns appear these days. I was playing with a drawing in my notebook while feeding Hannah and then I realised I HAD to make it happen. So I grabbed out my phone and turned the drawing digital and then into a pattern. Of course it took a few more months than that sentence suggests. I can't go near my computer at the moment without a baby climbing me trying to help me so I am a little bad about making things happen quickly. But that is slowly changing as she becomes more independent and lets me do things. <br /></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEi_ev9pm3wVyL9wz06BXFERZyBeE008OId0FsPmeCq5qDBQd4HMjjIAXel2NV22Fzzr4YEyuQJGV0Bd1enjqZcdgg7r-24HBvNJ1v7fDIwWl0gvuCtXMji8uUtr_q2XWXjJFSS0Go9OBcQj5OogQgQtnbBPxGaB-2fY9wV8RqXvax_1ATKvHCOh7FFi=s4032" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEi_ev9pm3wVyL9wz06BXFERZyBeE008OId0FsPmeCq5qDBQd4HMjjIAXel2NV22Fzzr4YEyuQJGV0Bd1enjqZcdgg7r-24HBvNJ1v7fDIwWl0gvuCtXMji8uUtr_q2XWXjJFSS0Go9OBcQj5OogQgQtnbBPxGaB-2fY9wV8RqXvax_1ATKvHCOh7FFi=w480-h640" width="480" /></a></div><p>I love this original drawing. It will make some things harder and I'm going to have to work on marketing my patterns a bit better but I won't be charged just for the privilege of displaying my patterns. </p><p>So you can find the mermaid pattern <a href="https://naughtscrossstitches.square.site/product/mermaid/5" target="_blank">HERE</a> if you wish to purchase it. The way they are constructed is absolutely amazing. The first person to see a hexagon they've made and folded it was amazing! While I haven't used a pattern directly I have used this pattern <a href="https://makeanddocrew.com/day-date-easy-crochet-sweater-pattern/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">HERE</a> as inspiration. Maybe when I am done I will write up the full instructions on what I have done particularly to do with fitting to bubs. <br /></p><p>So I pulled out my 8ply bendigo cottons to have some fun with this. Figuring a light cotton cardigan is something that is needed right now. Hopefully if I just push through with this one I will get this done quickly. It's also easy to pick up and put down which makes it easier. I also worked out how to walk and crochet yesterday which helped even more! </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhOS1xqTqdXXO2alfm1sdwvAYj0KBZIxSVWj93y9pIZyO59o7q6wmmWvHlUPsJ6VXrpaqXFdyK8HFvx_OOacPsnADTGEC8rEVbh2ZOjlbgrxpI0OIH5HE-zWJ2DYtZiEAN8tckwl6m2d5pWONjmyyzYTFDAwoA0bilA36VrfNLOeYSs0uU0J299Om5Z=s4032" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhOS1xqTqdXXO2alfm1sdwvAYj0KBZIxSVWj93y9pIZyO59o7q6wmmWvHlUPsJ6VXrpaqXFdyK8HFvx_OOacPsnADTGEC8rEVbh2ZOjlbgrxpI0OIH5HE-zWJ2DYtZiEAN8tckwl6m2d5pWONjmyyzYTFDAwoA0bilA36VrfNLOeYSs0uU0J299Om5Z=w480-h640" width="480" /></a></div><p></p><p>For reference I'm using the bendigo 8 ply cotton with my 3.5mm hook. There is one thing I love about cross stitching and it's that the threshold to enter the hobby is really low. You don't actually need a whole lot to start. Like with all hobbies you can start to fall down rabbit holes and spend quite a bit on luxury supplies and tools but none of that is needed to start. </p><h3 style="text-align: left;">So what do you actually NEED to start with?</h3><p>There are only 3 items you actually need to start with. </p><p>Fabric, Threads and Needle.</p><p>That's ALL!! You don't need the 30 gadgets that everyone says you do!<br /><br />But now I'm going to go into more detail about what fabric etc. and a couple of other items that you may want sooner rather than later. But the entry point for stitching is very low.You truly do only NEED to buy 3 items.<br /></p><h4 style="text-align: left;">Fabric</h4><p>What fabric do you need? You will hear people talking about a fabric called 14ct Aida. This is the fabric most commonly used by beginners and beyond. You can find this at all good craft stores. You will also hear people talking about Evenweave fabric but that isn't beginner friendly.</p><p> <table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiL91YcYruG4wL4VFOFha8sP0g3eL2ExMMisMWieIun9Ejyt35FwWE7n6YBzInq2PWiwddIY1X8nzDsLfWK6AWzYxt5W7SSTjA-_0_RrIX5kVyQUw-aHW1qLg-36kSb5ioq2TpK86-egYfVLSIJC8dh3QEAw7JnryyA1wMtquqAesXK52J88QzFjaRT=s4032" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiL91YcYruG4wL4VFOFha8sP0g3eL2ExMMisMWieIun9Ejyt35FwWE7n6YBzInq2PWiwddIY1X8nzDsLfWK6AWzYxt5W7SSTjA-_0_RrIX5kVyQUw-aHW1qLg-36kSb5ioq2TpK86-egYfVLSIJC8dh3QEAw7JnryyA1wMtquqAesXK52J88QzFjaRT=w640-h480" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Aida fabric has easy to see squares. <br /></td></tr></tbody></table><br />If you are looking at getting a younger child into cross stitch I would recommend plastic canvas rather than a fabric. Because you can't pierce the plastic and it's even easier to tell where the holes are. </p><p></p><h4 style="text-align: left;">Threads</h4><p>The threads you use for cross stitching are called six stranded cotton. The most popular brand you'll hear about is DMC but Anchor, Madeira and Sullivans are all reputable brands. You don't stitch with all the strands at one time. Usually only 2 strands are used on 14 count fabric but I will talk about this another time. Threads come in many colours and patterns will state which colours you should use. Depending on the pattern you can change it up to suit your tastes or the colours you have available in your stash. Don't believe that you must buy exactly what is written on a pattern though I do recommend that you understand some basic colour theory before changing too much. My most recent pattern the Valentine Owls have two colours for each owl plus eyes and a beak. You could use any available yellow for the beak you just need to make sure that it contrasts enough with the colour you choose for the owl, so too light/dark may not work. But it's also 4 stitches so don't go out of your way to buy the exact shade of yellow!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEguaX5ecvw0Bruok5Y86vJJ5MKYCiZzGM5JpF_LSYxqHZMGTjjI8Uag8ev7xIeDFkpcpqm0yqhwmkhF1xrA-DG1Vam5LHjpa_HqFv9NbAUhraaF5TEHVqzB7I1F-WovhmcmLV2mMjGyJdMBp3RSgfPl55O-5rkvc1LY3CisBFpPAbMhn5IGUBMXnNTR=s4032" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEguaX5ecvw0Bruok5Y86vJJ5MKYCiZzGM5JpF_LSYxqHZMGTjjI8Uag8ev7xIeDFkpcpqm0yqhwmkhF1xrA-DG1Vam5LHjpa_HqFv9NbAUhraaF5TEHVqzB7I1F-WovhmcmLV2mMjGyJdMBp3RSgfPl55O-5rkvc1LY3CisBFpPAbMhn5IGUBMXnNTR=w640-h480" width="640" /></a></div><p></p><p></p><h4 style="text-align: left;">Needle</h4><p>A cross stitch needle is usually a blunt tipped needle that is less likely to pierce the threads/fabric in a way you don't want it to. I personally prefer a size 26 tapestry needle. I like the size of these and find the slightly thinner needle easier to hold. I will use a size 28 on smaller count fabrics. A lot of people like the size 24 but I personally find I don't like the way it opens the holes too much. But the thing to remember is the tapestry needle it has a blunt head. <br /><br />If you are doing a piece with a lot of backstitching I recommend using a sharp needle for this as it helps pierce the threads better which is often needed at that point. </p><p> </p><h3 style="text-align: left;">But why haven't you included XYZ on this list? <br /></h3><p>Ohk as some eagle eyed people may notice I have forgotten to mention a couple of items that most people would deem <i>essential</i> for cross stitching! <br /><br /></p><h4 style="text-align: left;">Scissors! </h4><p>Guess what? You don't need scissors. And you really don't need that $40 pair of cute embroidery scissors. If you have a pair of scissors at home fantastic. If you have nail clippers they work GREAT! (sometimes even better than scissors because they're small.) If you have a dental floss container with the little cutting thing you can use that. Even a kitchen knife, just make sure you wash it first. As long as you have something to cut your thread you are set, you don't need to go all fancy and buy a pair just for cross stitching. If you really enjoy it you may end up with a set especially for stitching because then you are certain of where it has been and always knowing where to find them but you don't NEED this. <br /></p><h4 style="text-align: left;">Pattern<br /></h4><p> I'm sure a lot of people are wondering why I didn't mention that you need a pattern. But the truth is unless you are after a particular picture you don't need a pattern. You can do squares/lines etc to your hearts content. But I also haven't put it down as something you need to purchase because you can find lots of cute patterns for free to test out whether this is something you are really into. I have a few in the files section of <a href="http://www.facebook.com/groups/naughtscrossstitches" target="_blank">my group</a>. Eventually you will purchase patterns as you find designs that really call to you but you can do a lot without that. <br /></p><h4 style="text-align: left;">Hoop</h4><div style="text-align: left;">I have to use a hoop. Or some sort of frame. I like really tight fabric and when I try to stitch in hand I end up giving myself really bad cramps trying to hold the fabric tight. On the other hand my friend can't stand working with a hoop and just always stitches in hand (means holding the fabric in your hand). Neither is wrong or right they just are. But it's because of this that I won't add a hoop to a must have for anyone. It is entirely your choice. Try without one and see if you like it. Get a cheap wooden hoop and see if that is better for you. If you really like hoops maybe in time try a q snap (I hated q snaps and I don't really know why because others swear by them.) But the point I'm making is this is a very personal choice and you can try a couple of options but you don't need them to start stitching. <br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEj3zoVb95XVFA66_f61OEyoitv1mACz3aqnfrs6jOTPpQ6RiklbzSe1K0aea8Z5CKGVCwThnFaEl3wZa3MjLMMgDzOQJyxqPpkedrL7rFEwd-18YcDNHGosC1DaloydYE6L0B-oLb5ga7_xslFWmHyk26q90i6iNX2FCkbWo_ced6fdaY4zBmcQdxRt=s4032" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEj3zoVb95XVFA66_f61OEyoitv1mACz3aqnfrs6jOTPpQ6RiklbzSe1K0aea8Z5CKGVCwThnFaEl3wZa3MjLMMgDzOQJyxqPpkedrL7rFEwd-18YcDNHGosC1DaloydYE6L0B-oLb5ga7_xslFWmHyk26q90i6iNX2FCkbWo_ced6fdaY4zBmcQdxRt=w480-h640" width="480" /></a></div><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"> </div><div style="text-align: left;"> </div><div style="text-align: left;">Every time I see this question come up so many people try to add their own items to the list. The things that THEY won't stitch without. The thing is these items have been found by them over time and often with a bit of trial and error. Their perfect pair of scissors with the plastic hoop and stand may work for them but probably won't work for you because you sit in a different spot and hold your hands differently so you like these clippers better and stitch in hand because it suits you. Also what you want and like will change over time as well. </div><div style="text-align: left;"> </div><div style="text-align: left;">I hope this helps you know what you need to start with and I will have to make up a comprehensive list of more accessories that you can get when you are ready. <br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Happy Stitching, <br />Caitlin<br /></div>Caitlin @ Naughts Cross Stitcheshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06904101627826506419noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10826053826942506.post-60996552696809918852022-03-04T15:38:00.003+10:002022-03-04T15:38:25.258+10:00Floods! and WIPs<p>We have had a fun few days! I'm not sure how much news has been reported elsewhere but southern Queensland through into NSW has been dealing with a tonne of rain and floods. Not as bad for Brisbane as the 2011 floods but it was still bad. The rain really started for us on Thursday evening, but got stronger and stronger as the weekend went on. So often I can only share my work at the moment after I have finished it and it's published. But this week I have been spending some time on Beacon at Daybreak. So I want to show you my progress because I'm happy with how it is going :D</p><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjiCbBpMwu_PuetOLpj3AAVnmViCLrmYdbRzTm6Bikqizpur1rVOP32sHZaZM9amnkXSRMwHKK4eC5EJbEvQr2E6QV1EMUZOKPDqjtIbe3AL-SJ_vpdHJVahUNDosniJLCui2r2gUBxoj856FJl95RDQdqykJB2rxOb2L3YTytUiMWjYk6yQagC2rj5=s4032" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjiCbBpMwu_PuetOLpj3AAVnmViCLrmYdbRzTm6Bikqizpur1rVOP32sHZaZM9amnkXSRMwHKK4eC5EJbEvQr2E6QV1EMUZOKPDqjtIbe3AL-SJ_vpdHJVahUNDosniJLCui2r2gUBxoj856FJl95RDQdqykJB2rxOb2L3YTytUiMWjYk6yQagC2rj5=w480-h640" width="480" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Last Week<br /></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><p><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhfVHGN3MwwkJf6PeRMZ5reV3fxAzUXz5wE0EVAW_FFaC5fCBE30bHP1WZ4s09JQuDw5etm_1CPPZxaSLB7IligdZ3XnKoMr11a7GUMvH0S6gK6u1aG2X3nYLO6GN-ge1Gc6ZeMgCFjZAOkaKlwO56ljverTZp9ohrhhtUHdlIF5geK_smHH7f69hhA=w480-h640" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" width="480" /></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">22/02/2022</td></tr></tbody></table></p><div style="text-align: center;"> </div><div style="text-align: center;">I have that whole section on the left before the path finished. It is all done. Now I am focusing on the path and I want to get that finished. This piece is so easy to carry around. I'm between other projects so this is good to stitch on. Also not having a deadline makes me so much happier with this project. I seem to always be rushing my other projects trying to get them done quickly to release the patterns and it's not as fun. I need to find the balance. Probably better if I managed to work 2 magazines ahead not just one. I will get there one day. I have time at lunch I just need to use it properly. Also need to get my head working a few seasons ahead. I am weird about drawing at the moment. It will all work out though :D<br /><br />Happy Stitching, </div><div style="text-align: center;">Caitlin<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhfVHGN3MwwkJf6PeRMZ5reV3fxAzUXz5wE0EVAW_FFaC5fCBE30bHP1WZ4s09JQuDw5etm_1CPPZxaSLB7IligdZ3XnKoMr11a7GUMvH0S6gK6u1aG2X3nYLO6GN-ge1Gc6ZeMgCFjZAOkaKlwO56ljverTZp9ohrhhtUHdlIF5geK_smHH7f69hhA=s4032" imageanchor="1"><br /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhfVHGN3MwwkJf6PeRMZ5reV3fxAzUXz5wE0EVAW_FFaC5fCBE30bHP1WZ4s09JQuDw5etm_1CPPZxaSLB7IligdZ3XnKoMr11a7GUMvH0S6gK6u1aG2X3nYLO6GN-ge1Gc6ZeMgCFjZAOkaKlwO56ljverTZp9ohrhhtUHdlIF5geK_smHH7f69hhA=s4032" imageanchor="1"><br /></a></div><p></p>Caitlin @ Naughts Cross Stitcheshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06904101627826506419noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10826053826942506.post-2739680142116637162022-02-18T20:45:00.001+10:002022-02-18T20:45:14.065+10:00Friday Finds - Sarah Renae Clark<p> Let's see whether I keep this going again! I've done 3 posts this week! We'll see how I go! </p><p>I stumbled onto this colouring artist on YouTube a few months ago and absolutely fell in love with her work. She's funny and honest about her mistakes and her achievements. On top of that she's amazing at making colours look AMAZING! So check out her awesome videos.</p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/3ikPKYyYHxc" width="320" youtube-src-id="3ikPKYyYHxc"></iframe></div><br /><p></p><p>Happy Stitching,</p><p>Caitlin</p>Caitlin @ Naughts Cross Stitcheshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06904101627826506419noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10826053826942506.post-76085303353451731552022-02-15T17:00:00.000+10:002022-02-16T16:16:31.647+10:00Down The Rabbit Hole - In Flander's Fields<p>I know I did talk about this when I first started designing for this magazine all the way back in 2020! Gosh that seems like a long time ago! You can see the first design I did for them <a href="https://www.naughtscrossstitches.com/2020/12/my-design-in-magazine.html" target="_blank">here</a>. <br /></p><p>They are now onto issue 6 and each issue I have designed a new piece. It has been a great bonus. I finished the Aussie Animal Seasons series. They were so much fun to design. I love these little characters :D You can still get these patterns by buying magazines 1-4. I will eventually release these in my shop but I haven't gotten there yet. <br /></p><p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEib0BqeD9v1bCMriyEJO8Y2tTX-QaORzU_meFHtdIk8L8V2piAC0V9V_QKRv0sWGRWiGbSFT-Gq6-1jN7SVTARcthIpauo5dcspVxaFbL-F3b_W2AeqCDEpRT3-RVC5gfuFSBtlfLT7vo63f0KpQgDoeM2XaKubxySp9saTFkXke9wm8cnHuxtkUbAe=s1440" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1440" data-original-width="1440" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEib0BqeD9v1bCMriyEJO8Y2tTX-QaORzU_meFHtdIk8L8V2piAC0V9V_QKRv0sWGRWiGbSFT-Gq6-1jN7SVTARcthIpauo5dcspVxaFbL-F3b_W2AeqCDEpRT3-RVC5gfuFSBtlfLT7vo63f0KpQgDoeM2XaKubxySp9saTFkXke9wm8cnHuxtkUbAe=w640-h640" width="640" /></a></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p>Once that series was done I had to come up with something else for the next summer issue... so I ended up making this cute little cricket owl :D Because cricket is such a great summer sport here. Also owls... do I need anything more?</p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjIuAxiKyuhCXrBcQWcPxcfow3hR-cUxDL11QGVe2EIpb4r6oOuIjZdwm7Lv5-C_IOxJ9PdYQlI4GtLDFhpO_YIPBdZR7knn4Y-9mxhhe3dx1LPOIezJEgg-xo9UMHhfg8HkuXigvp_SBXR5IPSCm1vqJjx8-qN9Ti1IgDl-ozIMt-CtHrPlIsN9gaj=s4032" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjIuAxiKyuhCXrBcQWcPxcfow3hR-cUxDL11QGVe2EIpb4r6oOuIjZdwm7Lv5-C_IOxJ9PdYQlI4GtLDFhpO_YIPBdZR7knn4Y-9mxhhe3dx1LPOIezJEgg-xo9UMHhfg8HkuXigvp_SBXR5IPSCm1vqJjx8-qN9Ti1IgDl-ozIMt-CtHrPlIsN9gaj=w480-h640" width="480" /></a></div><p></p><p></p><p>The autumn issue is always hard. Living where I do in Australia I don't feel any connection the autumn because it seems to just disappear between summer and then suddenly it's mildly cold. But ANZAC day falls within Autumn and I found myself drawing a poppy. I had so much fun playing with pens and pencils. I love it when my drawings become designs it makes me really proud of how they turn out. <br /></p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEj8ZILk7RnpefePlNdu3W86h070fyuXlOGUaNW_darRHw3_JtbhSHKpzkLNi45wlqsAVBf7YDcsT40H6n8_BpHkVf_zWIJ6zZmHDSJbLU3ltBfU7jErOfp3pq5yw3AnJU_Gf3HWmDl9tGRO6O5-h-H2856YQ5zwur7ogND2A-eNpxv1GKproQhwJ41H=s4032" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEj8ZILk7RnpefePlNdu3W86h070fyuXlOGUaNW_darRHw3_JtbhSHKpzkLNi45wlqsAVBf7YDcsT40H6n8_BpHkVf_zWIJ6zZmHDSJbLU3ltBfU7jErOfp3pq5yw3AnJU_Gf3HWmDl9tGRO6O5-h-H2856YQ5zwur7ogND2A-eNpxv1GKproQhwJ41H=w640-h480" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p></p><p> I had this stunning red music fabric and I surrounded my piece with it and it just makes it sing. <br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjzUu5XObFG0me6yOtemz9aHR4tuwRfocuM6_DE7934kkZwCX_cUHLaegLfNZm1NBxim7atj6YrhljtpxIMKNo5n_iw6-nkbFgqrDBDGBcVW5ycPsJriGjxpvZthAJvpYYTNKxxGMdlKbhGFt9Sg_cnqVzG0HRgbx_M8mgo76cl3eWWjrdCfIoTGXeQ=s4032" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjzUu5XObFG0me6yOtemz9aHR4tuwRfocuM6_DE7934kkZwCX_cUHLaegLfNZm1NBxim7atj6YrhljtpxIMKNo5n_iw6-nkbFgqrDBDGBcVW5ycPsJriGjxpvZthAJvpYYTNKxxGMdlKbhGFt9Sg_cnqVzG0HRgbx_M8mgo76cl3eWWjrdCfIoTGXeQ=w480-h640" width="480" /></a></div><p> So this piece 'In Flander's Fields' can be found in the latest issue of <a href="http://www.downtherabbitholemagazine.com.au" target="_blank">Down The Rabbit Hole</a> that has been released on the 15th of Feb. <br /></p><p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgS_uZSNGPP-XqqhVtLCVMQC3bfRuViSsytN6bHYyyhqxip_CXmwcbxipM6N0HvS-F53m6AKQhgAn-wR5tMJSub0Khgfn0_crnnsJ-cv-u136oP4IpyoDumqIBQEUMxi82pLf13dI4o-0DG6jj9GsdvAFKAI3DOT2HfsOGgZngaTdPkamO4CYK_QRzh=s4032" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgS_uZSNGPP-XqqhVtLCVMQC3bfRuViSsytN6bHYyyhqxip_CXmwcbxipM6N0HvS-F53m6AKQhgAn-wR5tMJSub0Khgfn0_crnnsJ-cv-u136oP4IpyoDumqIBQEUMxi82pLf13dI4o-0DG6jj9GsdvAFKAI3DOT2HfsOGgZngaTdPkamO4CYK_QRzh=w480-h640" width="480" /></a></div><br />I hope you enjoy all these pretty designs. <br />Happy Stitching, <p></p><p>Caitlin<br /> <br /></p>Caitlin @ Naughts Cross Stitcheshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06904101627826506419noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10826053826942506.post-56963392279366224032022-02-11T11:01:00.000+10:002022-02-11T11:01:13.544+10:00Free Valentine's Day Pattern - Owl Love<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgiCugiCncLUHJfWIp0N_65m4kS7caq9_Y9aevgDVFXmTaSnK-U3VqQsFIKnix_ZfSK5fkBkwhB_T_Y8RxJQGJwHYZyjyk9lxhyHiScEcMbsTfpxG978BSfzvopL7igFFd-2nkZDm1ycfb6Or1j52mw-95thS2nJQDsKuwmGMr8Ilgr04sxqiaTga2w=s1102" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1102" data-original-width="735" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgiCugiCncLUHJfWIp0N_65m4kS7caq9_Y9aevgDVFXmTaSnK-U3VqQsFIKnix_ZfSK5fkBkwhB_T_Y8RxJQGJwHYZyjyk9lxhyHiScEcMbsTfpxG978BSfzvopL7igFFd-2nkZDm1ycfb6Or1j52mw-95thS2nJQDsKuwmGMr8Ilgr04sxqiaTga2w=w426-h640" width="426" /></a></div><p></p><p>It's been a while since I've released a free pattern and I had a need to make this cute little pattern. As normal at the moment I started with an idea I randomly sketched out and then decided I needed to make it happen. So if you're looking for a cute little piece to stitch for your partner or for your friends this weekend this little piece would be perfect!<br /></p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjpUhoXYlsEdH_0T1uDpwadb-CHebqLMnmlTFfZPvdXp2vme0bcV8VlK-IzwuI4IjvOnAdlJYKmG4a59K7FvWQin2e8mWkSDe5qoTZhzc98XWM9cdgOyNqTCvOXjR0iqrorLNCOl8BvGZC01vYy2llgCJ07DamErVHK-rrgMw43F1qTQRZ3IlgUZIPY=s4032" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjpUhoXYlsEdH_0T1uDpwadb-CHebqLMnmlTFfZPvdXp2vme0bcV8VlK-IzwuI4IjvOnAdlJYKmG4a59K7FvWQin2e8mWkSDe5qoTZhzc98XWM9cdgOyNqTCvOXjR0iqrorLNCOl8BvGZC01vYy2llgCJ07DamErVHK-rrgMw43F1qTQRZ3IlgUZIPY=w480-h640" width="480" /></a></div><br /><p>Though the final result ended up being a lot simpler than this was I just loved the idea of it. You can find the pattern in my facebook group <a href="http://www.facebook.com/groups/naughtscrossstitches" target="_blank">HERE</a>. If you aren't on facebook send me an email/message and I can send you the pattern another way but facebook is the easiest way to share PDFs with large groups of people. Please remember to answer the questions if you aren't in the group yet as I tend to turn down people who don't! </p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEg2MEI4bmYvM1UQBnH1-LwdQzorPmW8EMDaksUewbu61uNowyTawy9lOW0kfB6G0e-UG1qlMnwzIxH75NztG3j5CKy5jql0hEzfKEqXwqxidYw8oxuH8RWZ9HksHvcXCNKjjh3QON2bWlqDybNUxrp1L2OPi0titrgx8hGzmp4MY_UoUw61nPsmpQ5c=s2000" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="2000" height="512" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEg2MEI4bmYvM1UQBnH1-LwdQzorPmW8EMDaksUewbu61uNowyTawy9lOW0kfB6G0e-UG1qlMnwzIxH75NztG3j5CKy5jql0hEzfKEqXwqxidYw8oxuH8RWZ9HksHvcXCNKjjh3QON2bWlqDybNUxrp1L2OPi0titrgx8hGzmp4MY_UoUw61nPsmpQ5c=w640-h512" width="640" /> </a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I hope you enjoy this little pair of owls and if you stitch it share your finished piece with me. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Happy Stitching, </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Caitlin <br /></div><p></p>Caitlin @ Naughts Cross Stitcheshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06904101627826506419noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10826053826942506.post-82631037494875658482022-02-09T14:29:00.000+10:002022-02-09T14:29:06.067+10:00My last Year<p>This last year has been an adventure. When I look back just over a year ago I didn't even know I was pregnant and then all of a sudden we had a newborn to look after and she was growing so quickly. I have neglected this blog partially because I was posting on instagram, partially because crafting has been slow and just because it takes more effort to write for a blog than it takes to just share a photo. But I always love blogging. I love the extended story telling and what you can share vs what instagram will let you share. So here is a shortened version of the last year, craft projects, some ups and downs. All the new patterns that are out and all that fun stuff. </p><p>I last left you after showing cute photos of the outfit I managed to make for my daughter. She was due around the 20th of March and by that time she was very comfy and didn't want to make an appearance. They booked me into be induced on the 3rd of April and bubs made her appearance late in the day on the 4th of April. It wasn't an easy delivery and she ended up going straight to NICU after. Thankfully after the first day it was just for monitoring so she spent most of the days with me on the main ward. <br /></p><p> <table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgErarM9qoABNFCoeu3Y-6kFeb6He_F709nzQGaNFhDZZpLCyaYc-aok7HKh5IwsiCHlTARK_tbwDgopG9iZ_WxNCqUGAd8hVLUejsYvMaxrZGquR0JDklBiK6JDVRgHAU9ggxikVUPdQWoRxbywHmaXv3cEO2G-945H5k8-JQUHp2AHDLlYL4leLc3=s4032" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgErarM9qoABNFCoeu3Y-6kFeb6He_F709nzQGaNFhDZZpLCyaYc-aok7HKh5IwsiCHlTARK_tbwDgopG9iZ_WxNCqUGAd8hVLUejsYvMaxrZGquR0JDklBiK6JDVRgHAU9ggxikVUPdQWoRxbywHmaXv3cEO2G-945H5k8-JQUHp2AHDLlYL4leLc3=w480-h640" width="480" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Meet Hannah Jade<br /></td></tr></tbody></table></p><p></p><p>Isn't she so cute? I keep forgetting how small she was then. Hannah was only 3.3kg when born so not a big baby but not a small one. I was so happy when we could take her home after only 5 days. At first she was too small to fit the outfit that I made for her but it wasn't too long before she was looking so cute in the beanie and dress :D Kinda sad now though that she can't fit it anymore. <br /></p><p><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjXtBsVt2JQ5QEfUfXqZ0HLtF-BFPPV3VYB1pdxCLwZ9SprGbPsCivpqbP2MroDLV1AMrDAQT2vyBfZgtoKKkHnNNuspNza87lPWjxtVFmnjrz5BHsb1_17TBTUmJZeriQ6X526mnrNs_NrQDJBeKfaXSX_o8GZilUb0lTngGnIiM_CPPbAsmhJNaoZ=s4032" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjXtBsVt2JQ5QEfUfXqZ0HLtF-BFPPV3VYB1pdxCLwZ9SprGbPsCivpqbP2MroDLV1AMrDAQT2vyBfZgtoKKkHnNNuspNza87lPWjxtVFmnjrz5BHsb1_17TBTUmJZeriQ6X526mnrNs_NrQDJBeKfaXSX_o8GZilUb0lTngGnIiM_CPPbAsmhJNaoZ=w640-h480" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Hannah and her Dad<br /></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhvqFIOvs_fqa75-BKPK0WVt7RIpj-LGelBjAV-w3bBf29DBg2i4S9wpY7ZDaFQr0zQGPmbJMKYzfpI2Irwqi_MIsYDG6Wg5BMjXJCLMpjBUI6U28TdH6BfUYw8g529FNclIoJNTkgAIbD7iYfXYc-AP2i-907QmCclmN8wv9kvg7VYUENMu9BJbJWj=s4032" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhvqFIOvs_fqa75-BKPK0WVt7RIpj-LGelBjAV-w3bBf29DBg2i4S9wpY7ZDaFQr0zQGPmbJMKYzfpI2Irwqi_MIsYDG6Wg5BMjXJCLMpjBUI6U28TdH6BfUYw8g529FNclIoJNTkgAIbD7iYfXYc-AP2i-907QmCclmN8wv9kvg7VYUENMu9BJbJWj=w480-h640" width="480" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Cuteness to the extreme :D <br /></td></tr></tbody></table><br /></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjcEHRbweB88IvZmEyha5EiRqkM727y9bLYfkBIDcuvBXbpSHr9wR0hp2AsFWdfeUvnI65o9tJg3cqfwtAeEw_HHzKVf8m3f77ukt9CTybh98ykOrNkyDy-9jHohtNggv3R3TnTyHv21b37Po_m0t8p8q2E-Ph81K349QAJy9PfWx9Y9LXa7ksBUcsE=s3264" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3264" data-original-width="2448" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjcEHRbweB88IvZmEyha5EiRqkM727y9bLYfkBIDcuvBXbpSHr9wR0hp2AsFWdfeUvnI65o9tJg3cqfwtAeEw_HHzKVf8m3f77ukt9CTybh98ykOrNkyDy-9jHohtNggv3R3TnTyHv21b37Po_m0t8p8q2E-Ph81K349QAJy9PfWx9Y9LXa7ksBUcsE=w480-h640" width="480" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Hannah and Me<br /></td></tr></tbody></table><p> </p><p>She has been such a happy baby but it has been such a change that at times I've been struggling to keep up. She's so happy to play but was also very clingy to me. I could do nothing if it wasn't with her touching me, or so it seemed. A trip to the toilet would end in her screaming because I was out of her sight. I couldn't leave her to go to the shops because she would scream the whole time etc. It was an adjustment. While I did still manage to craft during that time it was limited. <br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjx4jgqSdqWAg60RHFy9ksQdVLNOWOPhIboUmOBkMw0B923LaGy_ThJIfs8jhdD1cIAqzHeg1oysZ9z8P2UED0msJzgNqg3UnOCoLygYc5VFUCXMHu-xl28bBcxGGJ-2VPXUX44UwTibyeOARTmw0y05X23eqnBiYt6kgeTl1TPZ3Gu9rAvzZTUK7F_=w480-h640" width="480" /> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I was able to do some stitching but it was mainly designs for the magazine. I finished my Animal Seasons patterns and I'm looking forward to designing more aussie animals in the future. I just couldn't resist when I was staring at all my gorgeous cottons to pick this one up and look up a knitting pattern. <br /></p><p>I was recommended by someone to check out the designer Marianna's Lazy Days and her stuff is just gorgeous! <br /></p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiw5V4DTt8cse6w5bDfjKlIaIgPIm2xdlr0ERDJ_8ryayiiJpFSay4qITNPoL4ceJbG2QUxQLSjHedZYhkK5nEzoCzIQP1OHdY5DnfweO4dBUaatA1RABsCdVDIxRjQnyichg2X-oG6-r8/s4032/PXL_20210118_204347130.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiw5V4DTt8cse6w5bDfjKlIaIgPIm2xdlr0ERDJ_8ryayiiJpFSay4qITNPoL4ceJbG2QUxQLSjHedZYhkK5nEzoCzIQP1OHdY5DnfweO4dBUaatA1RABsCdVDIxRjQnyichg2X-oG6-r8/w480-h640/PXL_20210118_204347130.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDU0ZPGkv87phcO9h7xxP0Mw2yvSDqnz2LEdw61phzUbDvJ8sH_FveoNKCz_04Q-kDkv6XPju5kwrmP8q2wBLwVNFKlhzNCTr_WlSBP1g3R40Qo8J3s4cwsjb1mEtsSH-xHwU_U2eFdRw/s4032/PXL_20210118_203209537.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDU0ZPGkv87phcO9h7xxP0Mw2yvSDqnz2LEdw61phzUbDvJ8sH_FveoNKCz_04Q-kDkv6XPju5kwrmP8q2wBLwVNFKlhzNCTr_WlSBP1g3R40Qo8J3s4cwsjb1mEtsSH-xHwU_U2eFdRw/w480-h640/PXL_20210118_203209537.jpg" width="480" /></a></div> Now I meant to post this up about a month ago when I actually finished this little dress but I've been struggling a little bit. I have a lot less motivation to do anything at the moment. I quickly run out of energy. I have about 10 posts sticking around in my head but I just need to get around to posting them. I will do it soon I hope. <p></p><p>The little dress is called the Lazy Daisy all in one baby dress it can be found for free <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/lazy-daisy-all-in-one-baby-dress" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">here</a>. It was such a quick little knit and I can't wait to see it on my baby girl in a month! </p><p>The beanie is the Karina Baby Turban but without tying the last little turban part. You can find the pattern <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/karina-baby-turban-hat" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">here</a>. <br /></p><p>I am going to go and write up a couple more posts though they won't be appearing straight away I'll try and pace them a little bit. But lots of cool announcements a few new patterns that I have released and of course pregnancy updates. Anyway I will be back with you shortly.</p><p> <br /></p><p>Happy Stitching, </p><p>Caitlin<br /></p>Caitlin @ Naughts Cross Stitcheshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06904101627826506419noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10826053826942506.post-82522158477554553862021-01-18T19:00:00.001+10:002021-01-19T12:37:58.704+10:00I'm having a BABY!!<p>In case you missed the news in all the other ways I shared it, since I forgot to post here. Just before Christmas we found out that we're expecting a baby. It was a bit of a shock because we hadn't been trying we had been doing what we could to prevent it and I hadn't had any symptoms except putting on weight. So when I went to the doctor and the tests were coming back 6-10 weeks along we went maybe a little more than that but probably not much more. Then I went for the ultrasound. Well it turned out I was about 28 weeks along! </p><p>So as of today I am I think 31 weeks along with little Spud due sometime mid-late March!!! To say it's been a journey over the last few weeks would be lying but I'm also becoming more and more excited to meet our little girl. </p><p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2712VKOArAmdez_fPi93Y0ncAwFurPbSyIc-xZz_9I_QIrcAAeQ0ED_ktfD9MjqNES9Y9fOFqNAFr8j8HdHCst5fDLgxWJCw_ckvxJtlyxIbfZfdnv0nPq0w5p1qNq8TTpHwg4-aIdEw/s4032/PXL_20210118_001159370.MP.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2712VKOArAmdez_fPi93Y0ncAwFurPbSyIc-xZz_9I_QIrcAAeQ0ED_ktfD9MjqNES9Y9fOFqNAFr8j8HdHCst5fDLgxWJCw_ckvxJtlyxIbfZfdnv0nPq0w5p1qNq8TTpHwg4-aIdEw/w480-h640/PXL_20210118_001159370.MP.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><br /><p></p><p> </p><p>To make the announcement to family I just had to make something special... So I made a new design :D </p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9p2Kk2_V-LxmzElrAIg8K11moHzD0iF6kiSeShmNPy1rA0un9_2GiBrlkgxGqZz-6O4CsEfiUP3UN9dZFPqi1N4qw5JynwHN7l8dm5C79ZMCNpM3f9JTi_VNr3DPzffsTPA3aHeBuImI/s2160/20210106_091811_0000.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2160" data-original-width="2160" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9p2Kk2_V-LxmzElrAIg8K11moHzD0iF6kiSeShmNPy1rA0un9_2GiBrlkgxGqZz-6O4CsEfiUP3UN9dZFPqi1N4qw5JynwHN7l8dm5C79ZMCNpM3f9JTi_VNr3DPzffsTPA3aHeBuImI/w640-h640/20210106_091811_0000.png" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p>It's actually from a drawing I made a couple of years back when I was bored but I figured it would serve the purpose quite well. Isn't she so cute? I also made a cute little boy as well. </p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRf23THZ7HwsNDNeQMm-ezackjg6kiz8EaK7WxHOohche08cMNLAEA9SIvxsPshybnOqsz4HpFX7siGK0XKhHwjT08cELkPQ61SO-mdWq1k2fRknPGLiUf5METSO8pj_-aY-l3kp7xPzs/s1102/2_4.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1102" data-original-width="735" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRf23THZ7HwsNDNeQMm-ezackjg6kiz8EaK7WxHOohche08cMNLAEA9SIvxsPshybnOqsz4HpFX7siGK0XKhHwjT08cELkPQ61SO-mdWq1k2fRknPGLiUf5METSO8pj_-aY-l3kp7xPzs/w426-h640/2_4.png" width="426" /></a></div><br /><p>But honestly you could change the colours up and either of these designs could go for either gender. I'm not picky and nor should you be. This little girl is really only tiny. 38hx22w so not big. I'm going to add her name to it when she is born and her details and stitch it as a little pillow. </p><p>So if you want to stitch this little character as well you can find the pattern here<span class="py34i1dx"><span data-offset-key="1nr9g-0-0"><span data-text="true"> <br /></span></span></span></p><p><a href="https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/944550615/baby-cross-stitch-pattern-beginner-cross"><span class="py34i1dx"><span data-offset-key="1nr9g-0-0"><span data-text="true">https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/944550615/baby-cross-stitch-pattern-beginner-cross<br /></span></span></span></a></p><p><span class="py34i1dx"><span data-offset-key="1nr9g-0-0"><span data-text="true">I hope you like this new little pattern and the exciting news! It will mean that despite my best efforts I'm probably going to be more sparse here than I'd like. If you want to keep up with more regular updates follow me on instagram <a href="http://www.instagram.com/naughtscrossstitches" target="_blank">@naughtscrossstitches</a> and <a href="http://www.instagram.com/naughtslife_fitness" target="_blank">@naughtslife_fitness</a> it's easier and quicker to make a post over there but I like being able to write a lot when I can. It's a great keepsake and resource. </span></span></span></p><p><span class="py34i1dx"><span data-offset-key="1nr9g-0-0"><span data-text="true">Happy Stitching, </span></span></span></p><p><span class="py34i1dx"><span data-offset-key="1nr9g-0-0"><span data-text="true">Caitlin<br /></span></span></span></p>Caitlin @ Naughts Cross Stitcheshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06904101627826506419noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10826053826942506.post-51109762086116944792020-12-15T17:10:00.001+10:002020-12-15T17:10:20.223+10:00kookaburras and a little knitting! <p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNzTh7dNJMhmpL-ieJNDKbs8mCUq0mzgxhUL7I7I6vWBf25oYLO6Q1F-rP3wYnD4NkPUMS3g0Xs5vWJbcfkHesq04NpuluXvKPYJx7OtPnTNzYsqlDebOt5z_Zh7JXviF2iW9wxPgGoJg/s4032/PXL_20201209_013110414.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNzTh7dNJMhmpL-ieJNDKbs8mCUq0mzgxhUL7I7I6vWBf25oYLO6Q1F-rP3wYnD4NkPUMS3g0Xs5vWJbcfkHesq04NpuluXvKPYJx7OtPnTNzYsqlDebOt5z_Zh7JXviF2iW9wxPgGoJg/w480-h640/PXL_20201209_013110414.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>Went to lunch the other day and was greeted by this cutie. It's a kookaburra for those that aren't familiar with Aussie birds. They're the ones that laugh at you when they speak. Literally their call sounds like a laugh. <p></p><p>Watch this video below to hear them. :D They make me smile!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/TqdRQxgtZtI" width="320" youtube-src-id="TqdRQxgtZtI"></iframe></div><br /><p><br /></p><p></p><p>This kinda shows the difference walking to and from the train has made to my fitness and abilities. A typical day used to be at most 4000 steps. I was lucky to hit that on an active day. Now it's easy for me to go over 8000 steps daily which I really love! <br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXhO_GqACAb71rPps3LriAnxdMh-W6vrTS1pki3E3Pt17OoL8CKpoBgxHyIorkiTFFVUEWza8BIkyYeKxiM3iz3NS4cAuNZcGQ6qnHEy5THu6yesiIc1ItUmQ6iOSGDvWxQbTltkixw1M/s2280/Screenshot_20201209-082652.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2280" data-original-width="1080" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXhO_GqACAb71rPps3LriAnxdMh-W6vrTS1pki3E3Pt17OoL8CKpoBgxHyIorkiTFFVUEWza8BIkyYeKxiM3iz3NS4cAuNZcGQ6qnHEy5THu6yesiIc1ItUmQ6iOSGDvWxQbTltkixw1M/w304-h640/Screenshot_20201209-082652.png" width="304" /> </a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">My tiny tiny bit of knitting. I needed to make up a couple of gorgeous presents for my friend that I was seeing over the weekend so I quickly whipped up a couple of bookmarks for her to use. I am going to have to have some fun in between gnoming and make a pile more of these because they are cute and fun to make. Very quick to stitch up. <br /><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxOcq7G2mH8IjilM3Cl94SjZurPycKn1QH0sxQRtu_5BUUQum2v2oFXtBa5PXXbolvzJiZqsLZqVBY8T-OUFdNKfuE6YzleZUTJ7QIOoUYyhf5YgJkvq3wNJf-7nFwxj077vRTM7gnUcE/s4032/PXL_20201205_233937400.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxOcq7G2mH8IjilM3Cl94SjZurPycKn1QH0sxQRtu_5BUUQum2v2oFXtBa5PXXbolvzJiZqsLZqVBY8T-OUFdNKfuE6YzleZUTJ7QIOoUYyhf5YgJkvq3wNJf-7nFwxj077vRTM7gnUcE/w480-h640/PXL_20201205_233937400.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>Both patterns were freebies I found through ravelry. I love their search engine!<p></p><p> </p><p>The two ended flower pattern can be found <a href="https://lakeviewcottagekids.com/index.php/2014/05/06/here-it-is-the-crochet-flower-bookmark-free-pattern/" target="_blank">here</a> <br /></p><p>While the Rose can be found <a href="http://www.livingthecraftlife.com/2016/02/flower-bookmark-stem-free-pattern.html" target="_blank">here</a> ... though this actually links to making the stem and then you follow it through to the rose pattern. Both flowers are really easy to crochet and took very little time but look absolutely gorgeous in the Bendigo Cotton. </p><p><br /></p><p>Now let's talk Gnutmeg the Gnome. If you don't want to spoil the mystery this is Day one and two of stitching so if you haven't got there yet don't keep scrolling. This is the last project I'm showing off so you're not missing anything but gnomes!<br /></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5GtiGmsvRMaelHJUS6frqSXFN0Q0aMVk9o-2t8UxX6XWxoIsfQl7tvZuk1V4LJqAQo41DXTyH7zRt_TgaoUzAbyqRgRYNHNYGAiVVgDuTyJ-h0S0BrA7i-EiNEDhGicgGhb-eV578l3M/s640/3_medium2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5GtiGmsvRMaelHJUS6frqSXFN0Q0aMVk9o-2t8UxX6XWxoIsfQl7tvZuk1V4LJqAQo41DXTyH7zRt_TgaoUzAbyqRgRYNHNYGAiVVgDuTyJ-h0S0BrA7i-EiNEDhGicgGhb-eV578l3M/w640-h640/3_medium2.png" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p>Day one we did the beard. I was really unsure about how it would turn out and ended up pleasantly surprised. <br /></p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiI8QQMfW8C8KQZPBBne22Ez09aY9vTbsr8OzA0NyjrHPA1mIB2nFCDZYC3hAXqojU6nNee7b4cMf9P88-8hMfs2Pmyqa4fDsgic98K0rX9lx7mGDKJaPa8ihHlRBlUcm003C63kAqjw-Y/s4032/PXL_20201203_020309052.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiI8QQMfW8C8KQZPBBne22Ez09aY9vTbsr8OzA0NyjrHPA1mIB2nFCDZYC3hAXqojU6nNee7b4cMf9P88-8hMfs2Pmyqa4fDsgic98K0rX9lx7mGDKJaPa8ihHlRBlUcm003C63kAqjw-Y/w480-h640/PXL_20201203_020309052.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><p></p><p>Then the second Day of knitting came out.... This one was dangerous!! I had to start knitting in the round and I realised after the needles were going every which way and the swearing was getting more pronounced that I really needed to rethink! So I did! I stopped what I was doing, pulled it back to two needles and worked from the two needles to start bringing it into the round. SOOOO much easier. I have a funny feeling this happened the last time I tried to start knitting in the round as well! </p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpgKnbZLK_fVG19MOaOuY9zUGbXdXDWfcPuYnrtLFXKpBYXPdfpg2Cnn_Fu2SX5ApS89sBg5MUYNpz2K-OaSOyPstgikHpfj6PtIpVPqGkO14OKlh36eeWJRSfBXbDDegiU8hr1M3M0mo/s4032/PXL_20201204_222343383.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpgKnbZLK_fVG19MOaOuY9zUGbXdXDWfcPuYnrtLFXKpBYXPdfpg2Cnn_Fu2SX5ApS89sBg5MUYNpz2K-OaSOyPstgikHpfj6PtIpVPqGkO14OKlh36eeWJRSfBXbDDegiU8hr1M3M0mo/w640-h480/PXL_20201204_222343383.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><p></p><p></p><p>As you can see here.. this was the end of day one's knitting. That is not because I kept forgetting to post about it ... it was honestly because I caught up one week and then put it down for half a week waiting for the next pattern and then started stitching something else and that is where I went wrong. As with a lot of long term SALs it's very easy to just not pick it back up when the next part is published. I was really good for about 16 weeks or so. Then other projects took precidence and I forgot about it entirely. <p></p><p> Then in the last few weeks I started catching the train to work each day. I really really love this extra time I have. On top of the exercise I'm getting, that is just makes me happier, I am managing to stitch or knit each day. <br /></p><p><br /></p><p>It truly is the small things that help. I've also started working on the gnomemkal which will be so much fun. I've never done a mystery knitalong and this is great fun. </p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOwc7h0vUp33yvaJ9SUCHx3iwn8FdiQwijPP2ZjKL8vdGFPa_5hY_VgGj3CMWiVsUTC5mtAiSwRIpphc4pItlkldxBEXKeJ3GM73Aq__VTpTUryKuySk4urGQytqprIMuwLZy7i78JE0g/s4032/PXL_20201130_204120043.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOwc7h0vUp33yvaJ9SUCHx3iwn8FdiQwijPP2ZjKL8vdGFPa_5hY_VgGj3CMWiVsUTC5mtAiSwRIpphc4pItlkldxBEXKeJ3GM73Aq__VTpTUryKuySk4urGQytqprIMuwLZy7i78JE0g/w480-h640/PXL_20201130_204120043.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>Here are the pretty colours I'm using. They are the Pilot Frixion Erasable Pens. Absolutely fantastic for what they were designed for. I have a collection of them and I use them all the time on my sudoku. Because I can erase errors I make. Now someone had the awesome idea that these pens would be fantastic to use to mark fabric for embroidery and cross stitch. I end up on these posts again and again trying to argue with people that think these pens are the next coming and don't understand the impact they can have on your project. I'm hoping this post will get all my arguments in one place and it will help others make a good choice. </p><br /><p></p><p>I do want to make a disclaimer ... I always believe that people are allowed to make their own choices and can choose how and why they choose to use certain techniques. If after reading this you still choose to use the pens I can't stop you. But I really hope you read this and think about using them. They aren't worth the risk when there are other options out there. Also to make the point if you use them for their intended purpose as erasable pens for paper you shouldn't worry either. <br /></p><p>So why shouldn't you use Pilot Frixion pens for your cross stitching. More importantly why do I feel so strongly about it that I need to write this. </p><p></p><h4 style="text-align: left;">1. They aren't acid safe. </h4><p>What do I mean by this, inks and glues that you use are usually put into two categories. Ones that are free of the sorts of chemicals that will speed up the deterioration of items over time. You will particularly hear about this in the scrapbooking community as a lot of glues and pens aren't acid safe and will fade dyes or cause ugly yellow marks over time. Pilot have outright stated in the product descriptions for this product that they aren't acid safe. But this is particularly talking on paper why does this matter with fabric? </p><p>We make cross stitch projects to love for years and hopefully to hand over to our friends and family to enjoy for many years and why would you want to risk the fabric getting marks over time because you used something that will yellow it before it's time. </p><p>Also I have had it from others that they used these pens on a batik dyed fabric that they wanted to embroider on and it ended up bleaching the fabric. Not the effect she was going for. So not being acid safe they aren't reliable to use on ANY hand dyed fabrics and I wouldn't trust them on anything but white. </p><p> </p><p></p><h4 style="text-align: left;">2. Heat or Friction to remove. </h4><p>One thing I hear often from people is but all it takes to remove it is the iron. Ohk but what happens if you live in a cold climate? Someone else responded to that once with 'Oh I'll just remove them again' Which is fine if you've finished your piece as a quilt or something but what if you've finished it as a flat finish around cardboard? Or put it behind glass? How are you then going to heat it up to get rid of the lines? If you have the sort of winter weather that we can have here where the days can get quite warm but the nights go cold are you going to reheat it every day? </p><p>This was said in response to one of my comments on facebook not to use these pens. This is not the first time I have had someone respond like this to conversations about the pens. They don't stay away. And depending where you live they will continue to come back. <br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiEsXuoMMHO4mkkW3-adJlhK52NZCTVZNNinpQEWzvtmQQBXZVhkwA5UDJ12DXxfkwd-np4vBqR_3Y2pKfNbWLpUXgNr23jHBPGj3WeCA1McstvXw5n5gTR3ocoJ_1onXBNXuf9V_cLSU/s1080/Screenshot_20200827-084828%257E2.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="531" data-original-width="1080" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiEsXuoMMHO4mkkW3-adJlhK52NZCTVZNNinpQEWzvtmQQBXZVhkwA5UDJ12DXxfkwd-np4vBqR_3Y2pKfNbWLpUXgNr23jHBPGj3WeCA1McstvXw5n5gTR3ocoJ_1onXBNXuf9V_cLSU/s640/Screenshot_20200827-084828%257E2.png" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p>So heat is not a reliable removal method what about using Friction like you are meant to. While it wouldn't be hard to remove areas that don't have stitches around anything near stitches would be nigh on impossible. At the least you could do damage to your stitches trying to remove with friction. </p><p><br /></p><p></p><h4 style="text-align: left;">3. Time</h4><p>Every test I have ever seen people remove the ink after at most a day. No one that I know of has tested it over time. How often do you finish a cross stitch project in just days? I have but only little pieces. The pieces I feel the need to grid are rarely projects that will be finished in days. They are honestly likely to be months. Leaving the pen on the fabric without removing for months at a time could a) bring into play issues with being acid safe see point 1 and b) make it even more difficult to remove the pen as the pen settles into the fibers of the fabric. </p><p><br /></p><h3 style="text-align: left;">Why do I care?<br /></h3><p>I would hate to see someone putting a huge amount of time into a project and finding that it was destroyed by something as simple as using the wrong pen to grid. Particularly when the people asking are just beginning their cross stitching journey, I don't want you to get discouraged. Particularly because the solution is so easy.<br /></p><p><br /></p><h3 style="text-align: left;">What are the alternatives?<br /></h3><p>I'm telling you what you shouldn't use but in order to actually help I need to offer you another option. Something that you can use. </p><p>The best option is fishing line. Yes you heard me right. Fishing Line. A thin fishing line as a gridding thread. Because it is not thread so you can't split it when stitching, it's slippery so can easily be removed. </p><p><br /></p><p>You will also find a recommendation for sulky silver metallic thread. It gives the same effect as the fishing line as it's not a twisted yarn so you can't split it with the needle and it's fairly easy to remove from your piece. </p><p><br /></p><p>If you really don't want to use one of these thread options there are some pens you can use. Specially marked fabric markers. Only pick pens that are marked as fabric markers. They are usually acid safe and tested with specifically removing from fabric. They are often water based so they will wash out of the fabric easily. I wouldn't trust ones that can only be removed by heat because those sorts of pens can come back. If you are using a darker fabric you can use tailor's chalks. But the problem with these is they are easy to remove from the fabric as you are working without intending to. BUT even the are not safe. They can still come back and while I recommend them over frixion pens they're not full proof. Have a read of <a href="https://www.jeanfarishneedleworks.com/wordpress/an-rx-for-a-worldwide-epidemic" target="_blank">This article</a> as well about this subject. Do your research before touching any pen to your fabric. <br /></p><p> </p><p>I have also heard of people using lead pencils. These don't always clean really well but are a great way to mark something like embroidery where you are stitching over all the lines. I wouldn't rely on this for cross stitch unless you are doing a full coverage piece as you may not be able to remove the lines. <br /></p><p><br /></p><p>Honestly if you need to grid a piece the best is to take the time to use fishing line. It removes easier than the other options. </p><p><br /></p><p>In the end you can make your own decisions and do your own research. Look up archival and acid safe in scrapbooking or preserving clothes. Ask in the facebook groups with an open mind, you will get at least one person commenting on what went wrong with a project. One day I want to do a time test with the frixion markers but I honestly can't be bothered to organise it somehow. </p><p> </p><p>Happy Stitching,</p><p>Caitlin <br /></p><p></p><p><br /></p>Caitlin @ Naughts Cross Stitcheshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06904101627826506419noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10826053826942506.post-65183676710286038542020-10-28T12:14:00.006+10:002020-10-28T12:14:57.882+10:00Lack of crafting ...<p> I don't know what happened this month but I get home from work most days and just collapse! I haven't been motivated to do much so I decided to change crafts for a bit. Usually that's enough to break me out of a crafting funk. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEih9S50KJ3eeX3ogj9Zwx2jVxEU08BeLO1i4DnoaTm0TMxNwx1bUv26Ywl-Sapn5iqu-4IQ9p1qqCaNc4Gq4n80NHrvkrSlBDL109vhZkJrkP6Z-kTwlzdxxgpmfzQ8JGEnquPPCclFfck/s4032/PXL_20201025_101852141.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEih9S50KJ3eeX3ogj9Zwx2jVxEU08BeLO1i4DnoaTm0TMxNwx1bUv26Ywl-Sapn5iqu-4IQ9p1qqCaNc4Gq4n80NHrvkrSlBDL109vhZkJrkP6Z-kTwlzdxxgpmfzQ8JGEnquPPCclFfck/w480-h640/PXL_20201025_101852141.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><p></p><p>I bought this book ages ago. It's called Edward's Imaginarium and while I tested out a little bit of it I haven't done much. So I decided to just break out of my funk and crochet myself a monster! I've only just started. I'm about 5 rows further on than this picture but something is happening with it. </p><p><br /></p><p>I'm using my Bendigo Woollen Mills Cotton in the 8ply so it is so gorgeously soft to work with. I started using my normal go to of acrylic and just didn't enjoy the feel. Then working with the cotton just made me happy! Sometimes it's nice to do something different. </p><p><br /></p><p>Oh and just to show something interesting that has been happening.... We had a good lot of rain through yesterday and the park next to my work flooded! <br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8PhEuNq24-6rThK-mAweCDBx6CcOZuhhk2JW8vsfYoA56mYRNswMImyW7iyroz6hYnFOm4mihyphenhyphenCqr7l5nCpG0wRHB_bkKrw9Bxn4WRw7D-qxqM-ZHlreoeRfPsIw8MGg6wr7RYj8PBNw/s4032/PXL_20201027_065600195.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8PhEuNq24-6rThK-mAweCDBx6CcOZuhhk2JW8vsfYoA56mYRNswMImyW7iyroz6hYnFOm4mihyphenhyphenCqr7l5nCpG0wRHB_bkKrw9Bxn4WRw7D-qxqM-ZHlreoeRfPsIw8MGg6wr7RYj8PBNw/w640-h480/PXL_20201027_065600195.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><p>That's usually a green field! But by today it was green again. We're meant to get more rain tonight and I'm really looking forward to it. We've been in a bit of a drought and we need a good growing season.</p><p> </p><p>So curiosity, how do you get out of a craft funk? </p><p> <br /></p><p>Happy Stitching, </p><p>Caitlin <br /></p><p><br /></p>Caitlin @ Naughts Cross Stitcheshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06904101627826506419noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10826053826942506.post-80040835045166013732020-09-29T10:16:00.003+10:002020-09-29T10:16:15.488+10:00Free Witchalong for October<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6uICm7qtmrrMnb_qrm0F4s1UKqcnqLE86yrLiZfjqBaXkpHh7bN2UbMDKC80RsFbc_7O_yR_Tem_n_IdJ0NWG5mr-vD89SsUviA3EbeNfxaDe7jAD6m9Qbyr0V1KEpOq0uH0PmAeu-3g/s1102/beginner+cross+stitch+designs%25281%2529.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Witchalong Cross Stitch Pattern" border="0" data-original-height="1102" data-original-width="735" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6uICm7qtmrrMnb_qrm0F4s1UKqcnqLE86yrLiZfjqBaXkpHh7bN2UbMDKC80RsFbc_7O_yR_Tem_n_IdJ0NWG5mr-vD89SsUviA3EbeNfxaDe7jAD6m9Qbyr0V1KEpOq0uH0PmAeu-3g/w426-h640/beginner+cross+stitch+designs%25281%2529.png" title="Witchalong Cross Stitch Pattern" width="426" /></a></div>I was so excited about the drawing I made and the thoughts of joining all of you for a stitchalong in October and I was wondering how I would organise it. I also realised that October is my birthday month but it's been a few years since I last did a free pattern for my birthday. So to celebrate that (since I can't have a party this year) and to thank everyone for their support of my designs and me over the last few years I am offering this pattern for free and inviting everyone to join me for a witchalong for the month of October!!<p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTB5oOfkzqeS9nnuIPFgsM0EbvchVKHpFPbiONt4CWG3Y9XYUjcR0FImWZU_498N9SsAlkH7s7SRYTiANxqdtJd_TU0EWAmRgpQpWcLSJVOZ86QSUmbMFSFQoClRu9O9F1kkZhb5Hp4mI/s4032/IMG_20200928_072718.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTB5oOfkzqeS9nnuIPFgsM0EbvchVKHpFPbiONt4CWG3Y9XYUjcR0FImWZU_498N9SsAlkH7s7SRYTiANxqdtJd_TU0EWAmRgpQpWcLSJVOZ86QSUmbMFSFQoClRu9O9F1kkZhb5Hp4mI/w480-h640/IMG_20200928_072718.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>I spent all weekend test stitching this little cutie so that I would have it all ready to share with you. I'm so happy and proud of how it turned out and VERY excited to do this stitchalong or witchalong ... I think I like witchalong better :D!<br /><p></p><h3 style="text-align: left;">So how do you get access to this pattern? </h3><p>I'm going to offer it in two forms.</p><p>1. It's going to be available for download from my <a href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/naughtscrossstitches" target="_blank">facebook group</a>. It really is the easiest way to share PDF patterns. As I release the parts (the cross stitching and then the next week the back stitching) all the pattern parts will be available there to download and for you to share your stitching as you do it. </p><p>2. But because I know not everyone is on facebook, I'm also going to send it out to everyone on my email list because I want as many people as possible to get access to the pattern. You can sign up to my email list from here. At the top of my blog page is a subscription box to sign up for my mailing list. </p><p> </p><h3 style="text-align: left;"> What will I need?</h3><div style="text-align: left;">Well the pattern itself is only about 30x45 or so stitches so it's a little piece. You can use scrap pieces of aida or evenweave. Unless you want to play with the different colourways and try out a few of them and then you'll need a bigger piece of fabric. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">The pattern only uses 10 colours. With the 4 main ones being 4 shades of the same colour. When trying to decide on the colours to use to test it I ended up laying out a few choices and while I only had time to stitch one all these will be possible colours you can use (or you can use your own entirely.) <br /></div><p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYYjZmjYFwoQbd7MCtMo3jvaYaeJk5mAPRCGTUcJ2d09B8lqlUu5zj-dD1pruTWLc9dKy9IFgRN8i_VlttFe-lYcdx1uK4k3nHwhIG64bebeCHc1YVBKB8lwCerPCql-NFuR0Dx30oWfc/s4032/IMG_20200924_084611.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYYjZmjYFwoQbd7MCtMo3jvaYaeJk5mAPRCGTUcJ2d09B8lqlUu5zj-dD1pruTWLc9dKy9IFgRN8i_VlttFe-lYcdx1uK4k3nHwhIG64bebeCHc1YVBKB8lwCerPCql-NFuR0Dx30oWfc/w480-h640/IMG_20200924_084611.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><p>My tester was done in the blue but I'm also going to start a purple one because ... why not? And it's me and purple! <br /></p><h3 style="text-align: left;">Thread Colours</h3><p>Every colourway will use these DMC colours:<br /></p><p></p><p>920 for the hair</p><p>945 for the skin and 841 for the cheeks. I haven't worked out what would suit for darker colours but if you go too dark you may need to change the backstitching colour... </p><p>434 and 744 for the broom.</p><p>For the blue colourway:</p><p>797,798,799,800</p><p>For the Purple:</p><p>550, 552, 553, 554</p><p>For the Pink:</p><p>3802, 3803, 3687,3688</p><p>For the Green:</p><p>500, 501, 505, 562</p><p><br /></p><h3 style="text-align: left;"> What else do you need to know?<br /></h3><p>So the first pattern will be released on October 1 ... if you wish to get all the patterns via email you must be signed up to the mailing list by then I'm not sure if I know how to resend the emails but I may be able to send the link out if you email me. </p><p>I will release the backstitching on the 8th :D Which I kinda like the symmetry of as that is my birthday! An awesome present for me!! To give you wonderful stitchers the full pattern. </p><p>The week after I will release an email talking about finishing techniques. Over the years I have written NUMEROUS tutorials on how to finish your cross stitch as everything from pillows to book covers and a few things in between. SO I'm going to dig out those tutorials and we can have a look at all the cool ways you can make this design look cuter. </p><p><br /></p><p>There is one thing I ask of everyone participating. SHARE. Please don't share the pattern itself but share about the stitchalong on social media. Share photos with me and with others. Let people know where they can get a hold of the pattern themselves. I want to see what you are creating. That is half the fun of a stitchalong. </p><p><br /></p><p>So Happy Stitching and I look forward to seeing your creations, </p><p>Caitlin <br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>Caitlin @ Naughts Cross Stitcheshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06904101627826506419noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10826053826942506.post-11478445552621891762020-09-21T09:41:00.003+10:002020-09-21T09:41:55.559+10:00Painting fun<p> What do you do on a Saturday afternoon when you are 'bored' or at least not wanting to do what you have been doing all day? </p><p>Well it appears I was in the mood to start painting. I had an urge to paint a witch and here is the result! </p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjz0xrcAJ3IswAhS8-pLVFg6L1yxkZU8KWwWE5NO8aS8_zWkdlt-hbpQkO64i_VlsOIAW-N0aJ6UiKNZYrkUJ-scYc76cmdFQqlU_-i73QF_cqsro6Vm2rf-eyfXuN_PL_YZHsAmw-e28g/s4032/IMG_20200919_161134.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjz0xrcAJ3IswAhS8-pLVFg6L1yxkZU8KWwWE5NO8aS8_zWkdlt-hbpQkO64i_VlsOIAW-N0aJ6UiKNZYrkUJ-scYc76cmdFQqlU_-i73QF_cqsro6Vm2rf-eyfXuN_PL_YZHsAmw-e28g/w480-h640/IMG_20200919_161134.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><p></p><p>I started by drawing a little character on the paper and then ... out came my watercolours. </p><p> </p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdwNyGjfnUAS7HI7kVmgHHpj_ed18ebo_HSmronP9rtCiQlP-L3q0TIgXmkNqOuNBkMwjo2IskeSGTe1fv0JBa3B5qswWSQKFbbYDJaHkOsjyflDGWtxqXdz4jUy75S2jMoi05vARoAtI/s4032/IMG_20200919_153957.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdwNyGjfnUAS7HI7kVmgHHpj_ed18ebo_HSmronP9rtCiQlP-L3q0TIgXmkNqOuNBkMwjo2IskeSGTe1fv0JBa3B5qswWSQKFbbYDJaHkOsjyflDGWtxqXdz4jUy75S2jMoi05vARoAtI/w480-h640/IMG_20200919_153957.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><br /> I need to get a little better at drawing the outlines fainter... the more I got caught in the drawing the harder I drew.
