Down The Rabbit Hole - In Flander's Fields

I know I did talk about this when I first started designing for this magazine all the way back in 2020! Gosh that seems like a long time ago! You can see the first design I did for them here.

They are now onto issue 6 and each issue I have designed a new piece. It has been a great bonus. I finished the Aussie Animal Seasons series. They were so much fun to design. I love these little characters :D You can still get these patterns by buying magazines 1-4. I will eventually release these in my shop but I haven't gotten there yet.

Once that series was done I had to come up with something else for the next summer issue... so I ended up making this cute little cricket owl :D Because cricket is such a great summer sport here. Also owls... do I need anything more?

The autumn issue is always hard. Living where I do in Australia I don't feel any connection the autumn because it seems to just disappear between summer and then suddenly it's mildly cold. But ANZAC day falls within Autumn and I found myself drawing a poppy. I had so much fun playing with pens and pencils. I love it when my drawings become designs it makes me really proud of how they turn out.

I had this stunning red music fabric and I surrounded my piece with it and it just makes it sing.

So this piece 'In Flander's Fields' can be found in the latest issue of Down The Rabbit Hole that has been released on the 15th of Feb.

I hope you enjoy all these pretty designs.

Lack of crafting ...

I don't know what happened this month but I get home from work most days and just collapse! I haven't been motivated to do much so I decided to change crafts for a bit. Usually that's enough to break me out of a crafting funk.

I bought this book ages ago. It's called Edward's Imaginarium and while I tested out a little bit of it I haven't done much. So I decided to just break out of my funk and crochet myself a monster! I've only just started. I'm about 5 rows further on than this picture but something is happening with it.

I'm using my Bendigo Woollen Mills Cotton in the 8ply so it is so gorgeously soft to work with. I started using my normal go to of acrylic and just didn't enjoy the feel. Then working with the cotton just made me happy! Sometimes it's nice to do something different.

Oh and just to show something interesting that has been happening.... We had a good lot of rain through yesterday and the park next to my work flooded!

That's usually a green field! But by today it was green again. We're meant to get more rain tonight and I'm really looking forward to it. We've been in a bit of a drought and we need a good growing season.

So curiosity, how do you get out of  a craft funk?

Sloth Pattern

Sloth Pattern

Who doesn't need a little sloth in their life? Well I know I definitely do! I have a friend who is as obsessed with sloths as I am with owls so I just had to make this cute little pattern set for her. It started as a sloth to match the rest of my animals and I made one with the border and everything but I found it's just not as cool as one hanging from a tree! So you have both options available in one pattern. You can make it hanging from a tree branch or add the background and match it to the rest of my animal patterns. You could also turn this one into a crochet blanket.

I even managed to stitch up the little guy.

I love how it turned out and I hope all you wonderful stitchers enjoy this little pattern.

Question to everyone ... how could you see yourself using this little Sloth?

Finished Chick

I had a bit of an issue with finishing this project as I ran out of the yellow for the face but thankfully my mother had some more yellow yarn of the same colour and brand. You can't even see the point of change!

I'm really excited now to turn this into a pillow case and then make a blanket with the rest of the patterns. It will be looking absolutely awesome on the couch!

Cross Stitch Butterflies

Well I was asked a month or more ago if I knew any good patterns for butterflies, dinosaurs and sharks. Now I don't really know many designers outside of random magazines with patterns if I had been asked about simple patterns for people that would have been easy I would have headed to cloudsfactory. But because I couldn't answer I decided that I needed to make some instead.

Now that is a really convoluted explanation for using any excuse to come up with a butterfly pattern. I liked the sound of making one and so I did.

Actually I made two patterns. The first is a Blue Monarch Butterfly and the second is the Australian Painted Lady.

These are the same height as the rest of my patterns so they are only 2 inches tall when done on 14ct but are twice the width because of the wings.

They are up in my etsy shop they come together on the same pattern and you can find them HERE!

I hope you like these patterns and you can check out more of the animals in my shop. I am getting excited about all my patterns and I am going to try some dinosaurs next.
