Stitching Blog Hop - Society Assumes

Stitching the Night Away Stitching Bloggers Blog Hop

Do you experience this same assumption from society in general that just because you’re being crafty you’re also driven by some unseen force to be in constant 1950s housewife mode?

Well I can say that no one assumes that I can do anything around the house once they see me stitching but I do get a lot of odd looks. Young lady sitting stitching in public. It really amazes me how many people come up to you and ask you how hard that is to do. They always seem shocked or I get the comment I have never been brave enough to try that. I've never heard any assumptions out loud but I do get a lot of interest.

and then…. Who actually does the cooking and the cleaning in the household?

Well the cooking depends on who is home at the right time to start cooking. I am not the best cook, and more often than not Phill will be cooking dinner. Cleaning... tends to fall to me but it really isn't that clean. I'm not a cleaner by any stretch of the imagination.

I’d also really like to hear some words from the men in the crowd who stitch on this topic. What sort of societal reactions do you get and what ridiculously wrong assumptions do people make towards you when they see you working on needlework?

Well I can't answer this one!

Travelling Pattern - Tending The Blooms

Now I won the travelling pattern Tending The Blooms though I didn't realise I was signing up for it.

It arrived at a really bad time! A couple of days before we were doing our big moving day. So it took me a little while to start it though the first moment I could I found the threads and got going. Now I took one look at this pattern and said I love the design but don't like the dull colours. I have never been a real fan of the dulled colours though they look pretty I like bright colours. So I picked out some new colours.

Instead of dusty pink I picked out hot pink! and because mum said why do you always have to have purple when I was picking bright purple for the flowers I changed it to blue.

I had lots of fun with this pattern trying new stitches and making it look pretty.

and here is the finished product. Lovely and bright. I did it one strand over 2 like the pattern said though if I had thought beforehand I would have changed to 2 strands but I was too lazy as well. The only thing left to do for this pattern is find a charm for the bee. That may take a while but I'm not in a rush.

Now onto the exciting news, this wonderful pattern now has to travel onto someone else. Please post on here that you are interested in receiving the pattern and I will pick someone to receive it in a week. (maybe longer because everyone seems behind on blog reading at the moment.)

Enjoy :D

Very Late June WIPocalypse :D

Well with the move and everything I may have totally forgotten my June WIPocalypse post and it's almost time for the July one!

I have been busy just not really stitching on my big projects much because I don't have the time to sit much.

For afternoon tea you've already seen this photo but I may as well show you again :D it's so pretty with one page finished!

Now please excuse the really bad photos it's pouring down rain here and it's hard to get decent light.

I have worked on Jardin Prive. Not much as I have been trying to work on Geisha Girl and another project which I will tell you about tomorrow!

You can see the shadow of my hands at the bottom ... as I said really bad picture but you get the idea. I noticed something though when I was reading the letters in the alphabet. They have missed out a letter. Can anyone guess which one?

On an exciting note I have FINISHED Geisha Girl!

I am soooo happy about this piece. Working on evenweave which I love working on and it was much easier than the small girl I think the bigger count helps! and the evenweave not linen. I really don't like linen much!

I am going to finish this one into a needle book as I have nothing to keep my needles in. I really need to find some decent quality wool felt.

So those are the main projects that I have been working on and I have one more little finish to show you tomorrow.

All the best.

Well we've moved in ... sorta

As in all the stuff is now out of Phill's unit so that can be rented out which makes life a bit easier.

The house is full of rooms with piles of stuff in them. The books are spread out over the floor in the lounge the kitchen thankfully has no more boxes which is good and the bedroom is pretty much packed into the cupboards. That said that is only the piles upstairs we keep finding more downstairs!

Just an idea of what the house looked like before we had the carpets changed in the main bedroom

this is what they looked like before. I don't know whether they have been cleaned in years! They looked really manky!

To this :D

They are a gorgeous reddish brown with a very white yellow on the walls. They look stunning and so bright. Also wonderful and thick under the feet. There is a nice thick underlay and everything.

Now I did also want to show pictures of my garden beds.

I have three veggie patches. Now we've moved in I'm going to plant some beans and capsicum and see what comes out. Oh and that is an orange tree they aren't quite ripe yet but they are very close.

Oh on the job front ... I don't have one anymore.

I QUIT! maybe not the best time to be doing so but I finally had enough of being treated like I had no clue what I was talking about and couldn't be trusted to do my job. So when my friend left about two weeks ago that gave me the boost I needed to quit.

So I'm going back to supply teaching next term and hopefully I will find enough supply work in the new area to make up for the lack of permanent job.  Actually all I need is one day a week to break even (which isn't much considering I've been working 5 days almost full time) and two days would mean I would come out ahead!

Oh I have been stitching but not much. The house is in a shambles with boxes everywhere and it's hard to settle to stitching.

But I have done two keyrings :D one for me and one for Phill for the new house keys. Can you guess which one is which?

anyway that is all for today. I hope to be on more after next week as Optus are coming on Monday to install the internet!

Saturday 9 June 2012

and the winner is.....

MDGTJULIE!

Please send me your email as soon as possible.

(I have no clue how to get the pictures here!)

I don't have internet at the new place so I will not have many pictures to show at the moment or much opportunity to post but hopefully many opportunities to stitch. Life is going crazy at the moment.
