My last weekend

Unfortunately the weekend started with more rain. That seems to be the story at the moment. It may be another very wet winter.

So instead of staying inside and moping we went on a Landrover series run to a little pub in a town called Rosevale. It is a tiny little town outside of Ipswich. There isn't much there but the pub and a field beside it for camping.

I wanted to show some photos from the day and also show off my new craft project.

We randomly saw a lonely camel and I managed to get a bad picture as proof.

By the time we arrived at the campsite the rain was gone and instead

there was a beautiful rainbow. Dinner was wonderful and a great way to finish of an awesome day.

Now I was directed to the blog Grace is Overrated by someone recently and I loved the idea of journal pages. I keep trying diaries and journals but I never really know what to write. But I thought it was a bit empty just doing the journal page so I started a year book.

So with the help of some scrapbook paper I have created a double page display in an A4 art journal. I want to try and make one of these each week. We shall see how much that happens but it is great to actually use photos I randomly take.

I'd love to hear if anyone else does any sort of journalling, it's a new way to write for me.

I promised some stitching

I know I hinted at this in the background of my crochet post but it has taken a while for me to get around to posting this.

This design is a freebie from Byrd's Nest she has some gorgeous little blackwork designs. I haven't ever tried it before but it was lots of fun. A simple small design so it didn't take too much concentration.

Here it is almost finished :D

It's done on a polstitches fabric from a grab bag I bought a while ago. There are lots of pinks but with a hint of green so the bright colours suit it.

The inside of the flower was done in one strand while I did the rest in two.

I love to make biscornus and they look so pretty when finished.

But I don't like leaving my biscornu there. I had to add a ribbon so that it could be hung up.

I'm really happy with the result for this one :D

Painting the Walls

While everything in my head is going a little crazy I have also been trying to get some jobs done around the house as I get the energy.

When we moved into this house The walls were covered with an awful brown. A lot of the walls are still covered with an awful brown. We did the bedrooms before we moved in and I finally got my parents over to my house to help teach me how to paint the rest of the house. It took most of January and February for me to find all the energy to just paint the hall but the difference is amazing! It went from a dark hall to an area that is bright.

With the school holidays upon us I found that I had time again to keep painting so I got Phill to finally finish sanding the walls and I did the first two walls in the lounge. It's amazing how much energy painting takes up!

I have found that the painting takes energy I would otherwise spend crafting but some good does come out of it!

Now here s a photo of the lounge room before we moved in.

You can get an idea of the dark brown walls.

Which was particularly noticeable in the hallway. This was dark and dingy and not pleasant.

So I put down the undercoat on everything!
So I could get this :D

Not the best time to be taking pictures but that is my craft room to the right... very messy!

Down the hall doesn't it look bright?

You can see the part of the wall I haven't got to yet I'm only going bit by bit as my energy can handle because I'm doing most of it by myself.

Now we get to the important part! The whole reason of course for painting the lounge room was not because it was too dark and dreary, no it was to put up my cross stitch!

Finally my cross stitch has a home!

Can't you tell I'm extremely excited? It looks wonderful on that wall. All bright and cheery. Well not really bright but it makes me smile :D

So the sole reason I painted all the walls and door frames in the hall and the two walls in the lounge was to put up this one cross stitch. A worthy reason :D

One Eye, One horned flying purple people eater

Well It's not exactly a one horned but it does have one eye and it's purple! Let me introduce you to the newest member of my toy family.

This is a Syclops though I still need to come up with a name ... any ideas are welcome! Maybe Syd?

I couldn't resist starting something from Voodoo Maggie's book and since this looked like a very quick project this was my first choice.

I did make a bit smaller I used a 2.5mm hook because it's the only one I own that has a big handle and doesn't hurt my wrist.

An idea of the size. That is a normal sized spool of thread and it's smaller than it.

This photo also gives you a big hint on a couple of projects that I really need to post about. I'm putting together photos now.... though it  could be a couple of days before I get around to posting them.

I've also started a new project from voodoo maggie's book. I couldn't resist the giraffe. You will have to wait and see for photos :D

Catching up

So I realised that I have tonnes of things that I haven't posted about. I seem to get distracted too easily at the moment. One of many reasons I haven't done much cross stitch but I do have a cute crochet finish to show off :D


I started this before Christmas but because it was for me it got put on the back burner so I could finish other stuff. It got left in the bag with the yarns and because I never needed those colours I kept forgetting it.

I only had the arms and flower left to sew. Since I wanted to start another creature I finished this one in one session.

So without any more babbling here are some photos.

The last photo has the book that this pattern came from. I'm going to have to make some of her friends at some point. I used a 3.25mm crochet hook which is smaller than the book recommends so she is a lot smaller than she could be.

And because I can't leave you with no clue of my current creature I bought a new crochet book yesterday when I was out with my cousin.

You'll have to wait and see which one I'm going to surprise you with :D
